Bari gourmet

Bari Vecchia, the historic district, may be considered an independent town within Bari. Walk along the city walls to reach the stunning Basilica of San Nicola, a Romanesque masterpiece housing relics of the Saint stolen from Myra. Leaving the Basilica, you reach the Cathedral of San Sabino with its monastery.

During the walk, we will make some gourmet stops at a bakery and a famous ice cream parlour considered two ‘culinary institutions’ in Bari.

Later, we go into the alleys of Bari Vecchia to discover the ‘sgagliozze’, slices of fried polenta, and ‘popizze’, crispy yeast dough balls, both sold on the street corners. In the historic centre you will meet women experts in the art of making orecchiette by hand. Their speed and precision will amaze you!
